5th Symposium on Vacuum based Science and Technology
in conjunction with the 9th Annual Meeting of the German Vacuum Society – DVG
28. September 2010 - 30. September 2010 in Kaiserslautern, Deutschland
The meeting is organised by the Vacuum Societies of Germany, Poland and Sweden and is intended to provide a forum for the presentation and exchange of expertise and recent results on the scientific and technical areas within the common scope of the societies. It continues a series of annual meetings on Vacuum based Science and Technology which was started in 2002 by the German Vacuum Society DVG in order to foster the cooperation between European Vacuum Societies by transnational conferences. The meetings are combined with an industry exhibition of equipment and materials related to vacuum based technologies and for vacuum production.
The scope of the meeting comprises

• Applied Surface Science and Surface Technology
• Thin Films and Coatings
• Characterisation of Surfaces and Thin Films
• Bio-compatible Surfaces
• Nanocomposite Coatings
• Nanostructures and Nanotechnology
• Vacuum Science, Technique and Trends
The conference topics will be addressed by invited talks given by internationally recognized scientists. Thursday September 30 in the buildings of the modern Fraunhofer Center at the science boulevard of the PRE-Uni-Park in Kaiserslautern. The Fraunhofer Center is close to the campus of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and the Institute for Surface and Thin Film Analysis IFOS. Kaiserslautern is a modern university city with history and flair, located in the Palatinate Forest and easy to reach by express train and the Autobahnen A6 and A63.
The Symposium on Vacuum based Science and Technology 2010 will be combined with the Working Conference on Applied Surface Analysis AOFA which is held in Kaiserslautern partly in parallel from September 26 (Sunday) to September 29 (Wednesday).
The conference language of the AOFA is German with some English contributions. Each conference opens its sessions to the participants of the other one without extra costs. Also, the industry exhibition, conference dinner und excursion will be held together.
